Built to Last

Scripture: Luke 6:46-49
“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say? Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Observation:
Jesus is telling me that if I want to have a relationship with Him that I am going to have to build a firm foundation and that will require some work on my part. If I refuse to do the job or do the job right, then all I am doing is setting myself up for failure because my relationship with Him will be to shallow to last.

Application:
Spiritually is my foundation built on the rock -Jesus? When the Lord teaches or shows me some new truth that requires me to make a change am I willing to make it or do I just let it go and act like it was nice to hear but nothing is required of me? If the Lord requires that I make a change then I should be willing to make it, this way I am building a firm foundation. If I ignore and act like it doesn't matter, God still knows it and He knows that I am unwilling, therefore I am building my house without a foundation and my relationship with Him will not last.

Prayer:
Dear Lord help me to always be ready and willing to accept the new light that You show me each day. Help me to make the changes necessary to have a deep and abiding relationship with You. Help me to never become so self absorbed as to think that I have need of nothing. Thank You for hearing and answering my prayer, Amen.
