Jesus Died to Save Me

Scripture: Luke 23:46-47
And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’” Having said this, He breathed His last. So when the centurion saw what had happened, he glorified God, saying, “Certainly this was a righteous Man!”

Observation:
The officials & the people know that Jesus hasn't done anything worthy of death. But they decide he needs to die anyway because he's a trouble maker. They see the veil in the temple torn in two and the sun darkened. Even while Jesus is dying he is still being watched and mocked by many who are there. Finally when he starts to die, he says loudly, "Father, 'into Your hands I commit My spirit.", and someone becomes a believer. It is awesome that even though death comes it can still glorify God.

Application:
Well, I will admit that I don't want to die. I don't know anybody that really wants to. But my kids sometime ask me, "Why does Jesus let people die? He's supposed to love us, so why isn't he protecting us?" Well this is a good example of why some people are allowed to die- so that others may be saved. Sometimes when this is happening it is hard to see why it is allowed. But when a person dies knowing Jesus, having lived a life that represents Him, even in the process of dying they still show that Christ dwells within. I knew a lady who had breast cancer, who died with such a love for Christ that in her last weeks, all she did was glorify God. Whenever you would talk to her, you could tell she wasn't worried because God was in full control. In fact, she comforted us. If I ever have to come face to face with death, I want to be like that, glorifying God. What a witness!

Prayer:
Dear Lord, thank you for showing me that even through the process of dying you can still work to change the hearts of those who witness this event. Thank you for loving me so much that You were willing to die, so that I would be saved. In Jesus Name Amen.
