Scripture: Luke 8:23-25
But as they sailed He fell asleep. And a windstorm came down on the lake, and they were filling with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to Him and awoke Him, saying, “Master, Master, we are perishing!” Then He arose and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water. And they ceased, and there was a calm. But He said to them, “Where is your faith?”
Observation:
It seems that even the disciples having been with Jesus and seeing what he was capable of, forgot in this time of great distress that he could do anything. He wasn't concerned about the storm at all in fact he was able to sleep through it.
Application:
I have been on a boat in the very choppy Gulf of Mexico and it was pitching and tossing with water coming over the second level deck. I was a child at the time and it was all I could do to hang on and not lose my lunch. Sleeping just didn't seem possible until I got so sick that it was a blessing to pass out and wake up when it was over. Had I know Jesus back then, I am sure I would have been praying and begging for help also. Even to this day, I can get stressed out about the unknowns in life, like job security, finances, flying and wondering if we are going to make it out alive, etc. I have a tendency to start trying to take matters into my own hands and take over. The problem with that is - some things I can't control and it is during those times that I have to fully rely on God and that is when my faith is really tested. Can I trust Him to take care of me and provide for my needs? I may not get exactly what I want, but the Lord knows exactly what I need and he always makes provisions for it.
Prayer:
Dear Lord, Thank you for always looking out for me. Help me to never forget that you will always take care of me and provide the best for me. Teach me Lord to place my trust fully in you and not worry about things out of my control. Thank you for loving me.
In Jesus name Amen.
