Scripture: Exodus 17:11-12
And so it was, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed. But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
Observation:
The Israelites are in battle with Amalekites. They only win when Moses has his hands raised. Moses is so tired that he has to have help keeping his hands up. Finally the battle is over and the Israelites have won.
Application:
This took some TEAMWORK. What Moses had to do probably didn't look like that difficult of a job. But after awhile we definitely see that he needed the help. That's the way it is with church work today. We have leaders in place and you may think the job they do is an easy one. But I can tell you, it only looks that way. Leaders get tired, just like Moses did in this instance, and they need the help of a faithful group of people to continue to do the job. God placed Aaron and Hur there with Moses to help him. What if one decided that he just didn't want to do that job because he didn't feel "called"? Well I am sure the Lord would have sent someone else, but He was giving him the opportunity serve, and in serving there is a multitude of blessings. If I skip over an opportunity because I just don't feel like it, or I don't feel called, I could very well be missing out on what God desires me to do. Moses wasn't comfortable in his role. God had him get out of his comfort zone and move in a direction that was new and unfamiliar to him, as a result God used him in miraculous ways. Moses became closer to God through this experience and if I continue to step out in faith in the direction that God asks me, then I will be closer to God also.
Prayer:
Dear Lord thank you for showing me that I should serve when the opportunity presents itself. Help me get out of my comfort zone so that I can grow closer to You. In Jesus Name Amen.
